His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday watched a Polo Tournament. Two matches were held.
His Majesty's son and daughter, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen and Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah who played for Brunei Darussalam team tied with the Philippines 6 - 6. In the second match, the team of Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi ibni His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Bahar ibni His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, representing another Brunei Darussalam team also tied with Malaysia 6 - 6.
The tournament, held at the Royal Brunei Polo Club in Jerudong Park, was participated by teams from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. According to a representative from the RBPA, the tournament among other things aimed at capitalising on the strong following that has grown following the bronze medal performance during the recent SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
RBPA, added, the association is thrilled to organise such a tournament in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne and at the same time, sharing the happiness with the public in celebrating Royal Brunei Polo's 40th Anniversary. Polo sport in Brunei Darussalam began in the 70's and is a platform to foster closer relations with neighbouring countries.
